Cody Werner is a journeyman carpenter with Beeler Construction, committed to his trade and what the work means to him. Drawn to building from an early age, Cody turned his high school passion for shop classes into a career right after graduation. Six years later, he finds fulfillment in seeing projects from start to finish, especially in sensitive environments like hospitals, where precision and care make all the difference.
Before becoming a journeyman, Cody spent short stints on different jobs as an apprentice. Now, he knows what needs to be done and in what order, allowing him to coordinate the next steps while also performing the various aspects of carpentry himself. For Cody, the day begins early—usually by 5:40 a.m.—when he arrives at the hospital jobsite to prepare for his 6 a.m. start. He first walks through the various projects to make sure everything is clean and that containment areas remain secure and professional.
Depending on the day, Cody also checks in with subcontractors to confirm progress is on track. “Once the coordinating aspect of the job is done, I can roll into whatever other tasks need to be completed,” he explained, which might include demolition, framing, drywall, ceilings, or cabinetry. On larger projects, he often works alongside both apprentices and journeymen, depending on the scope of work and the pressure of the timeline.
Cody’s favorite projects start as a blank slate and gradually take shape into a fully active space. “I enjoy projects where we perform the framing and drywall and make the plans a reality,” he said, highlighting the satisfaction of seeing a space transformed from concept to completion.
Cody typically brings his own lunch, often packing venison sausage and fruit, along with a Bubblr and a Gatorade. On days when that isn’t enough, he takes advantage of the cafeteria where he is working, which offers a wide variety of healthy options to keep him fueled through the afternoon. After his mid-day break, his shift typically wraps up by 2 p.m.
Over the years, Cody has learned to roll with whatever the day throws at him. Working within a facility can bring many challenges, and a key part of the job is learning to keep everyone satisfied. Clear and open communication ensures that clients always know what’s happening, helping projects run smoothly.
For Cody, working at Beeler Construction is about more than just building projects. It’s about being part of a team that values personal growth, supports its employees, and takes on meaningful, diverse work. “You really aren’t just another number,” he said, appreciating the company’s approachable owners and the opportunities to take on responsibility while tackling a range of challenging projects. It’s this combination of professional support, variety, and a family-oriented culture that makes Beeler a place where Cody can continue to grow and take pride in his work.
