As a general contractor, we rely on strong coordination between our field teams and our office staff. Our work gets done well through people, communication, and collaboration. Recently, we completed DiSC Assessment training with both our field and office teams to strengthen how we work together, align our communication styles, and build a more effective culture across the entire organization.
DiSC is a widely used behavioral assessment framework that helps individuals understand their communication and work preferences. DiSC organizes behavioral tendencies into four styles:
-
- D – Dominance: Direct, results-driven, decisive
- i – Influence: Outgoing, energetic, persuasive
- S – Steadiness: Patient, steady, supportive
- C – Conscientiousness: Analytical, quality-focused, detail-oriented
The goal isn’t to “type” people or label them. It’s to provide insight into how we typically communicate, what motivates us, and how we can collaborate more smoothly with others.
In construction, communication is essential. Misalignment can lead to rework, delays, or frustration. DiSC helps teams:
-
- Recognize different communication styles
- Reduce misunderstandings
- Adjust approaches to fit the situation
- Improve collaboration across roles (field + office)
- Support stronger teamwork during high-pressure moments
When people understand themselves and their teammates, communication becomes more intentional.
Jacki Warner, our Director of Talent and Culture, spearheads our training initiatives and really understands the value DiSC brings to our group. She had this to say about the training:
“The DISC training through MRA in Waukesha was a great example of a team coming together with a shared goal in mind, and the recognition of how we communicate truly matters. When you have the right tools and insight into both yourself and your teammates, it creates a foundation of understanding and common ground and that’s where the magic happens as collaboration takes shape. A big win for me as we continue to build a high performing team and culture at Beeler!”
DiSC isn’t just about communication, though. It supports how we show up every day. Here’s how it aligns with our Beeler core values:
Do what’s right, not what’s easy
-
- DiSC encourages awareness of our default behaviors
- That awareness helps us choose the right action, even when it would be easier to react based on frustration or assumptions
Committed to Excellence
-
- Construction demands clarity, accuracy, and accountability
- DiSC supports better teamwork and more consistent communication, so expectations are understood the first time
Relationships at Every Level
-
- Understanding communication styles helps strengthen relationships across the field and office, which ultimately will help guide conversations with our clients and partners
Lead with a Can-Do Attitude
-
- DiSC creates practical tools for working through friction
- Instead of saying “that’s just how they are,” we learn “this is how to communicate effectively”, which helps turn challenges into opportunities
By training both our field and office teams, we gained shared language and insight, so that we can work together with clarity, understanding, and momentum.
Beeler Construction continues to invest in its employees every day by providing ways to grow and communicate. The DiSC training, several leadership training sessions, and future education opportunities all ultimately provide what Beeler prides itself on: rewarding careers!
