As Beeler Construction celebrates its 40th Anniversary this August, we’re honored to spotlight Superintendent Mike Unger, the man who has been here from the very beginning. With 50 years of construction experience, including a 40-year tenure with Beeler and 5.5 years at ABCO, the predecessor company founded by Curt Beeler Sr. in 1959, Mike is the living embodiment of our company’s values and legacy. From the early days to today’s complex healthcare and commercial projects, Mike has been the steady hand, ensuring that all trades work toward the same goals safely and effectively. His unwavering commitment to the people of Beeler Construction has made him not just an employee but a cornerstone of who we are.

Q: What does a typical day look like in your role at Beeler Construction?
A: My typical day is making sure all trades are working towards the same goals and being safe.
Q: What drew you to a career in commercial construction, and how did you end up at Beeler Construction?
A: I like the challenge of the opportunity to work on many different types of projects in commercial construction. In the early days, your best chance of finding a job was word of mouth. I knew Larry and Otto, and they put in a good word for me.
Q: What’s the most challenging project you’ve worked on, and what made it memorable?
A: I have worked on so many jobs, big and small. I would say the remodeling of a department store in Edina, MN, was a great challenge. It was very large, had 4 levels, and didn’t have a working elevator until the last month of the project. We had lots of subs, and everyone worked together well.
Q: What do you enjoy most about working at Beeler Construction?
A: The thing I like most about Beeler Construction is the people. The people I work for, the people I work with, and meeting and working with our customers.
Q: What’s one thing people might be surprised to learn about commercial construction or your specific role?
A: There is a lot of teamwork required to complete a project, no matter how big or small.
Q: If you could describe the Beeler Construction team in three words, what would they be?
A: The three words that sum up working for Beeler Construction are that they “care about you!”
Q: Outside of work, what are your hobbies or interests?
A: Some of the things I like to do when I have time are fishing, boating, snowmobiling, and working in the yard.
Q: What is a fun fact about you?
A: I like wooden boats and their history. I hope to restore one someday.
Q: Favorite Local Restaurant or Favorite Food?
A: I like Do’s Dry Dock on Pewaukee Lake. They have the best pizza
Q: Favorite Vacation Destination?
A: I like going anywhere “up north” in Wisconsin, especially Mercer, WI. I have been going up there since the late seventies with mostly the same group of friends. Always a good time.
As we celebrate 40 years of Beeler Construction, we also celebrate Mike Unger. His four decades of dedication, steady leadership, and genuine care for people have helped shape our company’s legacy. From the early days of word-of-mouth networking to today’s complex healthcare projects, Mike has consistently shown that success in construction comes down to one thing: the people. Mike, thank you for being there from day one, for leading by example, and for embodying the Beeler Way every day.
